Damian and Brendan picked up their K1600s after arriving at LAX on their flight from Melbourne, Australia. John Parry took Brendan to their storage unit while Damian took the bus to San Diego to pickup his “new” bike from Tom Ness.
After riding into Los Angeles, I met up with Damian and Brendan at the hotel in Calabasas.
We spent five great days riding north through California crossing the Sierras multiple times. On the first day, we met up with John and Tom to ride the canyons of the Malibu mountains to the Pacific Coast. We followed Highway 1 along the coast north to 101 before turning east to enjoy Highway 58 from Santa Margarita through McKittrick into Bakersfield. Turning north on the narrow, twisty Caliente-Bodfish road to stay the night at a hotel on the shore of Lake Isabella.
From Lake Isabella we rode east to Interstate 168 which we took north to Big Pine. We turned east and rode up 48 into the mountains enjoying the twisties. Turning north on the narrow and twisty White Mountain road we rode up to enjoy a great view of the Sierras
We returned to Big Pine to enjoy a great BBQ lunch. That evening we spent at the historic Bridgeport Hotel.
The next day we enjoyed riding west over the awesome Sonora Pass and then back east over Carson and Monitor Pass to stay the night in South Lake Tahoe.
From Lake Tahoe we rode north to ride over the Sierras a total of four times in one day. We first took CA49 east across the Sierras to Sierra City. We then rode north on the awesome La Porte to Quincy pass. After enjoying lunch in Quincy we rode south across the Sierras again to Oroville. Our final crossing of the day was through the Feather River Canyon to stay the night in Chester, by Lake Almandor.
On our final day in California we rode north from Chester to Lassen Volcano National Park and then north to the Lava Beds National Monument. We spent the night in Klamath Falls
