Before the 2025 Aussies' Adventure, I rode out to meet them in California.
I rode across Texas on the first day to stay at the historic El Capitan Hotel in Van Horn. Enjoyed one of my favorite long roads in Texas, I-90 from Del Rio to Van Horn. It is a lonely but quiet and scenic ride through the Sonora desert of south west Texas.
On the second I left Texas to go across New Mexico and into Arizona on I-10. This was an uninteresting but fast ride in the high desert of New Mexico. The scenery improves in Arizona. I was making great time until south of Phoenix where and accident totally closed I-10. I lost two hours crawling along in the traffic in 100 degF temperatures until I was able to leave the interstate and take a diversion around the accident. I stayed the night with Jim Elliott in Paulden, Arizona.
On the final day, I rode into California to stay in Calabasas, Los Angeles to complete my 1,800 mile ride.
I met up with Damian and Brendan who had flown in from Melbourne. Damian took the bus down to San Diego to pickup the 2018 GT he had bought from Tom Ness. Brendan retrieved his bike from storage with help from John Parry.
On Friday, Damian, Brendan and John went for a ride in the Santa Monica mountains while I had a rest day to catch up with laundry.
In the evening we all went John's for a great meal and social catch up.
