We left the hotel in Grand Lake early to enter Rocky Mountain National Park before the requirement for the Time Entry Permit. It was a cool morning so we dressed warmly as it would be a lot colder at the 12,000 ft summit of Trail Ridge. It was clear and sunny so we had a great with very little traffic up to the summit. As we descended towards Estes Park the traffic coming towards us rapidly increased. At the entry gate in Estes Park, there was a long line of vehicles. After breakfast in Estes Park we rode south on the Peak-to-Peak Highway to Idaho Falls. Continuing south along the twisty foothills roads we arrived in Woodland Park where we stayed for two nights. We met up with our friend Jim Elliott and his red Corvette Stingray.
The next day we joined the long line of vehicles crawling up the hill to the admission booths for the Pikes Peak Highway. Ignoring the overheated bikes we eventually started to ride to the 14,000ft summit of Pikes Peak. Traffic was heavy and very slow but the scenery was amazing. We were able to park the bikes at the top and have lunch before returning down the twisty road and back to Woodland Park. That evening Bernie took us to the Golden Bee in Colorado Springs.
